Our Story

A real boutique, wherever you are

Ida Louise is a boutique built around one woman's eye for what looks good and fits right. Most mornings, before the sun is fully up, Mary goes live from the Ida Louise studio near Lake Norman. Women from all over the country tune in to shop with her.

The boutique is named for Mary's grandmother, Ida Louise. And it didn't start in a studio. It started with a folding table.

Fall 2020

A folding table and a stack of sweaters

Mary moved to Mooresville in the summer of 2020. With the world on pause and extra time on her hands, she started a side project: selling women's clothing she loved, and keeping one of everything for herself.

Her first try was a simple website. It didn't sell a thing.

Then, at a pop-up market in her neighborhood, she got to talking with the owner of the Third Eye Coffee truck. He invited her to sell at the next one, a neighborhood over. She showed up with a folding table, a clothing rack and a stack of really good sweaters, and they sold out almost right away.

That was the fall of 2020. For the next six months, Mary spent her weekends at pop-ups, adding more to her racks each month.

Her path

Before the boutique

Mary didn't come up through fashion. She served in the U.S. Air Force, assembling missiles at bases in Japan and Turkey. The habits stuck: attention to detail, no distractions, and a job that gets done no matter what.

She earned a business degree from the University of South Carolina. Then came six years in logistics and merchandising at Target, and it still shows in how she sources product, keeps the displays beautiful and racks full. After Target, she worked at PepsiCo as a senior financial analyst.

Her love of style started with handbags: a Prada bag bought in Las Vegas, then a Burberry. That love of designer bags lives on at our sister site, Ida Louise Designer.

April 2021

The Boutique on Marketplace Ave

In April 2021, Mary opened Ida Louise Boutique in a small storefront on Marketplace Ave in Mooresville. She ran it while still working full time at PepsiCo, with a small staff keeping the doors open.

The shop sat among hair salons and a spray tan studio, and their clients quickly became hers. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

By 2024, Mary's role at PepsiCo had shifted, and there was no time left to run a store. She decided to close it.

The last twelve days

Months earlier, Mary had tried selling live once. A handful of people watched, nothing sold, and she swore she'd never do it again.

Then, twelve days before the lease ran out, a shopper came in for the closing sale. She had a small live-selling following of her own, and she asked if she could stream from the store after hours.

It was an instant hit. Viewers loved shopping a real boutique, and in two hours they bought more than the shop sold in a full day. For its last ten days, the shop went live after hours and during the day.

2025 to today

A boutique you can shop from anywhere

When the doors closed, the momentum didn't. Mary rebuilt the boutique as a set at home, then moved into a studio of its own, with lit shelves of designer bags and professional lighting. Today there are two full studio sets.

In January 2025 she moved her shows to Whatnot and started fresh. Early shows were small, sometimes one sale in two hours, but she kept at it. By that summer, the shows had taken off.

At the end of 2025, Mary retired early from PepsiCo and made Ida Louise her full-time work. Most days she's live by 6 a.m. Eastern and stays on for hours. She has also taken the show to Europe, live streaming from major fashion wholesalers and shipping finds straight to buyers here.

Her shows feel more like a morning show than an auction: relaxed, fun and never rushed. Women from all over the country tune in, and they come back for Mary as much as for what she's holding up.

The line

The Ida Louise line

Mary always dreamed of a clothing line of her own. Then her buyers made it clear they wanted Ida Louise things too, so the line grew from clothing into the home.

Today it includes linen pieces, hats and beanies, candles, wax melts, diffusers, room spray, bar soap and laundry care. Each one is made for Ida Louise by partners we know, and each is something we use and love ourselves. Every piece should feel like a small treat.

Home on Lake Norman

Ida Louise lives in Mooresville, on Lake Norman. Mary's favorite way to enjoy it is a table at a lakeside restaurant. Boat days mostly wait, because the show starts early.

The next chapter

What's next

Mary's goal is to make Ida Louise a name women know nationwide, well beyond the morning show. The best way to be part of it is to shop with her live.
